Idle problem
« on: 19 April 2008, 16:21:46 »

Hi all

My 2.6 CDX (Y reg) has developed a fault with the idle. It revs at 1.8 rpm when it used to be approx. 1.0 rpm.  It used to occur on the odd occasion, but now it's always.  If I am at standstill, I roll the car forward in gear and the idle drops to normal tickover. The problem starts again every time I am at standstill.  A garage has looked into this problem, but cannot solve it.  Any ideas please.

Many thanks - rxc

To me it sounds like a sticking throttle control somewhere if it is not an engine management problem.  WD40 may cure it if you can discover where it is sticking.  :D  Lizzie Zoom

The throttle is a drive by wire system, no mechanical connection between pedal and butterflies.

I would suggest remove and clean the throttle body, unblock and clean the engine breather system.

Expect to find quite a mess around the butterflies.

There is guidance on here for breathers.

Idle should be 500/650 RPM depending on A/C running or not.
