Alarm Sounds Randomly
« on: 26 April 2008, 12:14:27 »

I've had my facelift 2.5 Elite for around 3 months now and very occasionally, say once in every 25/30 starts, the alarm will go off as soon as the engine starts. I've now got used to inserting the key with the buttons facing me so that a quick press on one of the buttons cancels the alarm. But strangely, if the radio is off at the time, as soon as the alarm is cancelled it will turn itself on. Also when this happens but not every time,  the traffic master will start spouting off about the license being expired i.e. the same message as if you had pressed the traffic master button.

I don't know if it's related but again, only occasionally and not necessarily when the alarm has sounded, after switching off the engine 4 beeps will be emitted.

I have tried reprogramming the key by inserting into ignition and switching on, holding down one of the buttons, which I believe, should lock and unlock the doors to show that the reprogramming was successful. Not in my case as nothing happens.  :(

Anyone have any pointers?

My 2.5 did exactly that for the weeks leading up to it`s battery failure; can only imagine it`s related to lower voltages.....The Radio and Traffic Master both behaved strangely (exactly as with yours) and I suspect the 4 'peeps' heard may be the power sounder protesting at lower than useful charging voltages too.
Doubtless, experts will follow..... :y

*Just a thought; are there any interior lights staying on....`anything that`d be drawing down the battery`s charge?

Definitely not an expert.

This definitely has something to do with low voltage.  My car did this for a while - I even had the alarm come on when driving along.

However, it got better.  I didn't replace the battery, or anything else for that matter, although I did leave the battery on charge for a day after I noticed that the starter motor sounded a bit sluggish.

My car doesn't like lots of short journeys - it needs a good run at least once a week.

Which alarm is going off? Horn or Siren?

The 4 beeps you hear is the power sounder (siren) complaining of a low battery level.....thats the power sounder battery.

If it is the siren going off then you have 2 choices, disconnect it or replace the battery in it.

Tho either way, horn or siren going off......it looks like the power sounder battery is getting knackered.

The car battery voltage has to be seriously low for the power sounder think its disconnected and go off......certainly far lower voltage to start the omega.
