Wasn't someone offering to mend fobs by soldering new micro-switches ??? can't remember who or when .. but it would solve all the re-programming problems ???
Martin Imber, but for facelifts only

Lizzies is a 2000 ... probably a facelift ???

Worth a thought perhaps ?

That great advice; many thanks all!! :y

Yes, mine IS a facelift, and I am very interested to have my transponder unit repaired with new micro switches.  Where is Martin please so I can send it to him and find out the cost?!

Many thanks! :y :y

Many thanks VXL V6 :y :y

However, looking at their site they do not display the key case with THREE buttons; locking/unlocking at 45 degrees to the key itself and the boot button at the rear in line with it.  Any ideas what make this is?
Is it a Bosch, and if so what type please?

Cheers! Lizzie Zoom :D :D

Three button fobs are by Delphi, while the covers are the same I believe there are at least two variants.

I think they are Megamos and Delphi-Megamos.

I have just had one of my keys "done" by Martin and a fine job it was.

Both my original keys had problems with wear so I was going to sort both out.

I sent the worst to Martin who re-soldered the battery tray and changed the switches.
I then bought a key complete off ebay, I bought two actually as I needed two. The first cost me just over £30 and the second just under £8. Depends who is looking at the time I suppose.

On the first key, the one re-vamped by Martin, I kept the blade and the electronic bit, the rest was crap. I found that you needed a new or nearly new key to make sure the little towers of rubber that pushed onto the switches inside the key were in good condition - this I found to be important.
As well as looking for a fob with 3 buttons you need to confirm with the seller it is the fob with the led light lighting up when you push a button.
So with re-vamped insides and nearly new outsides plus a new battery my first key is as good as new.

I intended doing the same thing with my second key but I found that when a good outside bit, with good rubber towers inside was joined together with the old insides and a decent, not new, battery that too worked fine.

I would like to state here and now that Martin is a wonderful person and turns around the work very quick indeed. I would recommend his service to everyone. He asks for a measley £7.50 for the job. I sent him a tenner and I think that is cheap at twice the price.

To people who's fobs are playing up, watch ebay and get yourself a spare for when you eventually need it. Afterall, these things are only going to get more scarce and expensive.

Hi,
I also require a spare key for my Omega, and like Lizzie, have been quoted £120+ from VX  I do NOT have the car pass.

So it was with interest I browsed the Pots of Gold site.

I can identify it is only 2 button type with H type blade, but how do I tell if I need Bosch,Kiekert, or Megamo transponder.  I cannot see any make type on my key?? or as they all seem to use same frequency, does it matter ??

Also, where do you get the Laser cut H type blades cut ??

Roger

does the boy have the blank keys?
Yes, but no remote fobs - you'll have to go to ebay for them

For the uninitiated (Me) ... can I get a fob off eBay, send this to you and you can programme the beastie to the car ??? Need a blade cut -- but will have to do this locally as I only have the one key !

ot unless you post your omega as well  ;D

Sorry......TB's tech2 has to be plugged into your omega to program the key.......look at it this way....the immobiliser ecu has to told to except the new key  :y

But if only the transponder is newly refurbished, with the original chip and main key shank still  in place is it just a case of synchronizing the whole key unit in the ignition? :o

As a warning to all facelift owners.

Get the keys repaired before they get hard to operate as failure to do so is what knackers the fob housing!

This normaly shows up on the lock button first as it is generally pressed twice as often!

What apears to be happening is that the rubber section of the actual internal switches is being squeezed out of the switch casing! I suspect that this might be a chemical reaction between the two rubbers of the switch and case so I now put a thin piece of sandwich bag type material between them on re-fit to try to counter this.

And yes Lizze, it just requires a re-sync (might not even need that!) because the remote and transponder are still programmed into the car and tech 2 work will not be required.

Thanks for that and the very good advice.  I am now arranging for Martin to refurbish the micro switches on one unit, and refurbishing the whole case of the 'spare' by using 'Pot of Gold, as advised.

Cheers.  Lizzie Zoom :y :y

What happens is that inside the switch it fills with a rather nasty gunge, feels a bit like a grease, I was cleaning in meths but that only lasted a couple of months, once they start to play up new switches are definatley the best bet.

If I get a run I will buy bigger batches of switches as postage is the killer, but I would need 5 or more confirmed orders to splash out or bigger quantities
