what's the chances of......
« on: 01 May 2008, 22:08:08 »

I have a misfire on my 3.0 v6. The paperclip says 19 (so crank sensor), but it did have oil on plugs 1 & 3 and on the HT leads (now removed, replaced and thoroughly cleaned). Breathers are clear. Would the crank sensor cause the misfire, and allow the engine to still run ( I only ask because the last crank sensor stopped it running completely), or is it more likely a knackered DIS pack? Can the ECU detect a DIS pack fault? It does feel like 2 plugs out......

you need to replace cam cover gaskets, and change the crank sensor.

Only a couple of weeks ago Mrs' 2.5 was missing like mad when around 3000-3500 revs and would not got over that. I paperclipped which gave a 19 code, but what puzzled me was the fact that I had fitted a brand new crank sensor only 7-8 weeks beforehand :(
This time I fitted a brand new Vauxhall one which was cheaper actually and straight away the problem had gone :y

1) The crank sensor can fail in a number of ways and create differing symptoms some of which result in what you are seeing.

2) Have you re-connected the plug leads on the 2-4-6 bank correctly as its easy to get them wrong (they dont fit to the DIS in a standard 2-4-6 order)

3) The 19 code is pretty conclusive of a failing/failed crank sensor.

4) The ECU can only detect faults on the primary coils in the DIS pack and not on the secondary HT side, and as you would expect, its normally the secondary HT side that fails.

I have just changed the crank sensor.....and no difference at all!!! (so I guess I have a spare now?!). I have bought a DIS pack from v6miggy on ebay, which I will hopefully have for wednesday, so thats the next thing to change :(
