2.2 DTI Y22DTH Help Please
« on: 09 May 2008, 23:43:06 »

Bought this one is Oct 07 on a 52 plate.  Took it is the QuickFit and had oil and filter changed at 40K using Mobil 1 Syn.

Prior to this diesel I has a 2.0L 16V N reg petrol for about 5 years, during which time the cam belt went once and bent all the inlet valves, anyway took the head off and fixed that lot so I know a bit about engines. Before that I had two Carltons and have changed most bits over the years.

But this is my first diesel which I like :-)

Cant get a Hayes for this model so I have a couple of questions....

Where is the oil filter (picture would be great)
Where is the fuel filter (picture would be great)

Does the Y22DTH have a timing belt or chain and when should it be changed 49K on the clock now and is it as easy as a belt on the petrol's

No pics sorry but here goes,

deisel filter is on drivers side of the engine bay. Start at the strut top and look down the side of the panel just behind the turbo. There is an allen key or torx headed screw on the top of the unit which acts as the bleeder for the filter.

Oil filter is on the passenger side of the engine just behind and down from the inlet hose for the manifold. It has a big hex, don't know the size yet, on top for removing the filter cap and it is a cartridge that goes in rather than the standard type of filter.

Chain driven cam and as yet have not seen a replacement interval for it.

Mobil 1 is probably a bit thin!

And ideally on ANY diesel, change the oila dn filter every 5K miles with Gm oil (cheaper)

36mm head on oi filter housing
timing chain ...should last the life of  the car
move the radiater header tank (easy) for easy access to diesel filter

Thanks for that omegaman2 good tip.  Also I like the idea of being able to forget about the timing chain, I was looking at the front of the engine thinking what a pain it would be to change.

Re oil change, GM recommend every 20K and I am just coming up on 10K since last change with 50K on the clock and its not used a drop of oil in that time  :y

Its a pain that Haynes don't do a book yet but when I spoke to them a few  weeks ago they said that they had had several requests and were thinking of doing one.

Does any one know if this engine is in the data tool discs.

Thats only to please the fleet operators.

And consumption is not the worry, the oil will have already broken down and be full of particulates from the blow by gases so black and slowly causing damage.

If you want it to last then 5K is the required..........on any diesel engine (and petrol in reality)

Ummm thanks for that I better pop in for a change next time I'm passing.

It's strange I can get the filter and oil changed in one of the national drive in's for less than I can buy the bits using Mobil 1 fully synthetic.
