Heater Fans
« on: 12 May 2008, 19:05:12 »

Coincidental to the aircon issue on the Estate (2.5 V6 Elite Auto), have noticed that interior fans when on "full" (Hi or Lo) are making a lot of noise - deep rumbling sound - altho output appears as normal.

Has anyone else experienced this?

How easy (difficult) is it to get to the fan(s), & where r they?

Its probably lost a balance weight off one of the vanes....and is vibrating slightly......unless it really bothers you.....i personally wouldnt bother changing it........pita of a job....

But basically its buried behind the glove box.....which means passenger side air vent out......loosen airbag cover......remove glovebox......remove airvent pipe.....untape wiring loom from cable tray and remove cable tray.......then you can access it  :y

Only took me 3 hours to get it out and 3 hours to put it back together again........my fan packed up so ive done the job.

I took my fan out to check and lubricate it when I had a controller problem, it's hard work.

Why does your fan have to run at maximum speed, is there another problem?

Fans run at max speed when climate set to Lo (or Hi in wnter!!).  I know u can slow fans down manually but to initially get the full benefit of aircon (or the heater in winter) Lo or Hi settings put fans on max.  This is normal not symptomatic of another problem.

I don't think you should have to set extreme temperatures.

As the engine coolant warms, the climate control will automatically adjust its fan speed for maximum cabin heat. The fan speed will then back off to maintain temperature.

Cooling works in the same way, max. speed briefly untill the sensor detects cabin temperature aproaching target.

Generaly run mine at 21 or so, it sorts itself out very quickly.

Are you sure you don't have a control problem?

To get max effect from heat or cooling you DONT want the fans on full.....to clear the screen you might though!

This post relates to the Elite Estate.
Initially it makes sense to set climate at either Hi or Lo dependant on situation.
If not why have HI/LO settings available.

I note in my saloon, dependant on ouside climatic situation, if car climate not set at extremes ie say 18ēC or 26ēC can get fans running at max for a short while.  Saloon fans do not make the same degree of "rumbling" noise that the Estate ones do!  Estate fan noise only increased recently - originally similar to saloon which are acceptable.
