X25XE and C25XE

Thinking of buying a calibra as a sunday car. WHat is the difference between the C25XE and the X25Xe apart from the engines coming from different cars?

Is one stronger? , better for cooling? , responds to tuning better?

Or is it just a case of different inlet?

I have had both but still don't know. The c25xe felt more alive but I think that is because of the lighter cavalier it was in. It seemed to sound a lot smoother too and that was with more miles than my current x25xe. Other than that, not sure, sorry.

Found these snippets for you.

97/98 Calibras got the X25XE Ecotec engine as the Vectras did.
EGR and Auxiliary air pump, top mounted manifold rather than rear mounted on the C25XE

apart from internal differences like pistons, and cams etc). But otherwise the same.

Theres very little difference between the C25XE and the X25Xe (ecotec).
something like its got an EGR valve and different exhaust (??!)
But otherwise theres not a lot to it.

C25XE is intended for FWD use, different sump and primaries.......

No point swapping C for X because it's the pretty much the same block etc.

C25XE production finished in 96 then X25XE was slotted in the (then) new Vectra.

Blocks, heads, pistons, crank etc were the same.....C25 had different cams (it used one of the 3.0 cams on both inlet and exhaust) and had a different injections system (less emission gubbins).

Not a patch on an X25XE from model year mid 97 onwards though.

Well,

To explain fully. Bought a 3.0 omega elite today. Body is grubby but engine has only done 75k and runs lovely. So... was going to buy a calibra v6 , and take the engine out and put the bigger 3.0 in.

You need the gear box and rear axle too - then the Calibra will handle properly :y

Yeah i hate FWD but not going to attempt to cut out the floorpan and do a RWD conversion. Im ok with cars but certainly not that good!

There was a 4WD version of the Calibra with Carlton rear diff - so it may be easier than expected!

Buy one with a blown transfer box

Would definately be the best bet, the engine was still transverse in these so putting a V in the correct way round would still mean some floorpan mods to accomodate the gearbox.
