what are the symptoms of worn CV joints

posted a a topic about a ticking noise under my car that increases with speed,,, recently it as a got louder and today there is a grumble kind of noise from the rear, was convinced it was the handbrake shoes but now i`m thinking its the CVs,, as anybody had the CV joints break down on them?

Its not something I have heard of before. Have the rubber boots got any holes in them?

There not actually a CV joint, they are a Lobro......never ever seen one fail but, if the boot was damaged and all the grease thrown out then it could cause damage.

i`ve never heard of this type of joint failing,, just the haynes manaul said clicking noise coming from rear could be the CVs,,, lobro is new to me.
 anyway jacked it up just now to double check and its not the CVs its the dif,, gutted,, didnt check if it was a LSD that may of broke,,, jacked one wheel up and that one spun and the clicking noise came from the dif,,, thought the bolts to the prop may have come loose and may be hitting as they turn,,, while in N i turned the rear wheel by hand and at one point it jammed,,
 i`m now pretty sure i`ll have to change the dif,,, any idea how much they are 2nd hand anybody?
