Yet another Aircon question
« on: 11 May 2008, 12:12:18 »

Just been to Kwik Fit and had a regas but they say my Low Pressure Pipe is leaking. Has anyone ever replaced one (or the seals) and how easy is it.

TIA

Pete

The pipe or the valve.....you often see the valves leaking but the plastic cap should stop that anyway.

As for the pipes, not seen those leak before.

I guess it was low on gas as we expected?

The lad at Kwik Fit had it testing for about an hour. When I got home I took the black cap off and put a bit of spit over the valve like I used to on my push bike years ago and the valve is leaking. Is it easy enough to replace the valve?

Had another look today and the valve looks threaded beyond where the cap would screw in. Has anyone tried to unscrew one?

You can screw a new schrader insert in.

With the cap fitted it shouldn't leak anyway.

I had the same problem with mine last week pete. Took it in for a regas, as it wasn't working properly. Next day took the car out for a spin turned on the air con and nothing. Had SWMBO take the car back on Thursday the guy wasn't there so she took the car to another depot, the guy looked at it put it on his machine and the machine found a problem but couldn't recognise the fault, so he done a visual check and found the problem it was the valve, so he replaced it and regased it free of charge as the other depot cocked up.
So the valves can be replace only. Tke it back to kwik fit and get them to sort it if its just the valve as they can do it. They should have replaced the valve BEFORE they regased it.

Hey Pete

Just had my AC done by Shane at CarCraft in Queen Street near KwikFit. He seems to know his stuff and is always very helpful. Nip round and have a word with him if you are unsure.

I took mine for a re-gas at ATS and he found the same problem with the lower valve (the upper one just has a scew in tyre valve in it) but the lower one has a ball bearing valve he said was leaking and couldent be replaced on its own all the pipes would have to be replaced
so charged me for the re-gas and left it at that because I was unwilling to have all the pipes replaced

Sometimes it will re-seat by fitting and removing the fast on connectors they use.

Other than that, just fit the dust caps well as they are actualy the main seal (they have a rubber seal in the top of them)
