New use for an Omega
« on: 21 October 2007, 21:48:03 »

Sorry no piccies .. but the miggy was put to a different use today  :)

SWMBO had a small prang in her mk1 clit .. no damage to the other vehicle..  that pushed the front in about 2 1/2 inches, most of the damage was to the 2 brackets to which the bonnet is attached ( on these the bonnet opens from the windscreen) so the whole bonnet was pushed back into the wiper mounts.

Bonnet off (at which point the headlights disintegrated - another story) eventually, remains of headlights out, battery removed, towrope with caribina attached to a riser bracket, bricks in front of each wheel, handbrake well on, and in gear, miggy took the strain, gently, then a quick blip of power, clit moves a tad ... repeat alternate sides until risers straight again !!

Fit replacement bonnet and headlights from scrappy, book in to a mate for a flash spray and headlight alignment  (cash job - no questions) .. and the job will be done !!  :)

who says miggys aren't versatile !!  :)

There was no damage to any structural components  .. only the risers the bonnet hinges attach to  :)

Trains may have been invented here, but public transport is a foreign concept!

I've been there and seen that .... which is why I'm prepared to do what I did .. I've also seen a 15 lb lump hammer being used for "minor adjustments" to some serious looking bits of metal !!

From a Physics point of view, this is perfectly acceptable. If the damage was caused by transference of momentum between 2 bodies causing a plastic deformation, then by "removing" the momentum you are merely "undoing" the plastic deformation. I remember doing this some years ago to a Metro with my Hillman Avenger. (if you can't blind them with science, baffle them with bu11shit)  ;D

OK, a bit butch, but the straightening techniques used by the "Professionals" are not much better. Stick in a hydraulic ram and push until it looks right.  :-X   Which reminds me a good way to see if a car has had "gentle persuasion" is to check the door to body gaps. They should be even all round. If they close up at some point................

many years ago an ex girlfriend used to stuff her mini into cars for an occupation  >:(

Lost count how many times we replace the bonnet and headlamps....and then we would tie the car to the telegraph pole, shove it in reverse, take the strain and then pull the front panel back into shape  :y

First time we did it we were worried about breaking the pole........no chance there
