has your car got a towbar?
If so sometimes installers cut off the car foglights  when connecting up the towbar electrics.

Have you checked the fuse?
If thats ok you need to do a circuit test to check that a live is coming from the back of the switch on the dash (should just pop out) / and then on the lamp units itself on the rear.

You need to "join" both parts of the wire that goes to the towing plug ... what happens in the plug is a little plunger "breaks" the feed wire to the lights when the caravan is plugged in .. these contacts are known to corrode/stick .. it is probabaly this that is your problem. as a temporary fix find both the leads and manually join them .. lights should then work

If memory serves its a thin black wire .. but don't hold me to that ... :(

I think they are black/blue. look at the wires going to the factory fitted socket for trailers there should be two of black/blue

if one of those black blue wires was cut so that the trailer socket wire was the connected to it then no power goes to the other blackblue wire so foglights on trailer work but cars don't . need to coonect those 2 black blue wires together ( I am assuminghere that the wires were cut from the facory installed  socket . if so just join those black/blue together)

Too slow at my typing - well done :y :y :y :y :y
for the future I have put a switch in the wire thart runs to the cars foglight so that when I tow by flicking the switch the cars fogs dont reflect in what I'm towing - caravan actually

If you had an OE GM trailer loom then you've have 8 wiresto/from the 12N socket & the normally closed switch you're considering fitting is in the side of the OE 12N socket switched when you plug your trailer in.
