Eratic Idle
« on: 08 June 2008, 09:12:47 »

Hi,

I have a 1998 2.5 Omega and I think there is a problem with the idle speed.

First of all, it hovers around the 500rpm mark, which stikes me as a bit on the low side.
The other thing is, the idle is eratic. It's as if you turn on the air con, the revs drop and then are corrected?

I have no warning lights on the dash...

I have cleaned out the ICV thinking that would cure it but it made no difference.

What should I try next?

Thanks
Mike

I had that same problem and cured it last week by blocking off my EGR valve.
Other issues could be ignition spark related, i.e plug leads defective / Dis pack defective.

i cleaned throttle body icv and breathers all at the same time

to idle at around 500RPM is normal

i had small engined cars before my omegas and also thought this was low, my elite idle's at around 450-500 and my 2.0 GLS was a touch higher at about 550-600. its normal

idle ok, but clean icv, as it sounds slow to respond.  If idle is lumpy, look for air leaks
