Need a bit of advice on my fathers car - M reg 4.0 V8 Jeep Cherokee - lpg'd.  

Anyhow, one of the rods ( con rod I'm told  :-?) has decided it didn't like the home it was in and come through the side of the engine - effectively fuabring the engine completely. He has been able to get hold of an engine (recon'd) which will be getting fitted this weekend.
Also, my Dad's car has LPG fitted to it - a couple of questions on this:

  a) would he be likely to need a new system??  don't want him getting ripped off.
  b) would a standard garage be able to retrofit the lpg off the old engine using existing bits without further action?
  c) Is he likely to need to go to a registered LPG installer for the above and also insuarnce reasons too??

Sorry the post is involved but have no idea on the regulations regarding LPG

The mechanic should just be able to fit the new engine, with a tad more work ...

I personally wouldn't mess around with re-cert, especially on an M reg, it's already cerfitied with gas, isn't it?

That's what I was thinking James.  

All existing parts are available - but just digging in case he gets stung on the rebuild of the lpg - it's touch and go as to whether to scrap it and get a new used one - but at 69 he's not going to be getting any loans so his budget is very restricted.  It needs the lpg - mpg is shocking on the 4.0 V8

I have done engine swaps before - my mum had a banger Avenger and when the engine blew we fitted a bigger one (basically bigger holes in the block) and it went straight in. Used the best of the ancillaries.

Bit hairy driving back with the 1.3 in the back as a 1.6 with 1.3 gearing was a lot nippy, the car had at least 21bhp more and a lot more torque
