Car stalls and is lumpy
« on: 09 June 2008, 19:37:53 »

Hi guys.

Since owning my Mig for about 3 weeks now its stalled about 6 times, 3 over the last 24 hours.

What happens is I start the car from cold and it idles low 500-600 then it drops. (This is with the clutch down, ie coming to a junction) It also has done it 3 times over the last 24 hours so i assume the warmer air makes it worse. I started my car from work and it was lumpy and jerky when on the throttle and i spotted this when coming to a junction I revved slightly to keep the engine running. After 2-3 minutes it is fine.

I then went out about 1 hour after arriving home and it drove fine. Parked up and went shopping. Came out and started car, was a bit lumpy and stalled when approacing junction. Started it up again and was smoother.

Pulled onto the drive and car in neatral, clutch down and the revs stayed at 1600 for a few seconds and then idled correctly.

Can sometime advise?
Throttle body need a clean? Idle valve? Breather hoses?

Other than this the car is fine and got 39.1MPG on the motorway this weekend over 205 miles so engine would be appear to be ok 99.9%

Sounds very much like your IACV and throtle body need cleaning.

I did my wife's 2000 last month and it took about an hour and a bit from start to finish, I bought a can of 3 in 1 grease cleaner from Halfords and followed the the instuctions in the maintenace section

Cleaned the throttle body.

Was fairly bad but not as bad as I thought, underside was quite bad.

The small breather was blocked! I cleaned the crankcase hole but the rubber pipe is perished so might replace the pipe at a later date.

Normal on a 2.5, unusual on a 2.0

As others have suggested, clean ICV and clean the breathers and throttle body
