Broken Spring!
« on: 14 June 2008, 11:10:09 »

Wasn't expecting that!  Last car I had do this to me was a 1982 model, really thought they were better at designing these things by the late nineties.  :-?

Anywho, the car still drove home.  It is a rear spring.  Can I do this on the drive, dropping the damper?  Anyone got a spring?  Available today, not too far from Coventry?  Pretty please?

Cheers.

Thanks, I'll take a look.  Hadn't heard of it being a common problem.

Everything probably shuts in 15 minutes, being the UK, so I guess I'm done working on it today.   :-/

Cheers!  I'll give them a call and see.

The how to is for rear dampers.  Does the arm drop enough if you disconnect the damper to get the spring in?

(Got your text.  Cheers!)

They close at 1pm, but that's just enough time to get there.  41 quid each, 2 in stock.  I'm surprised!

Well, when needs must . . .

. . . it's back on the road.  Broken spring replaced with a new one.  Managed to trash a spring compressor somehow, but did it by myself with only disconnecting the swaybar and the damper.

Still have 2 more spring compressors, but other spring will have to wait.  Maybe when I do the rear bushes, someday.  ::)

As said on the phone earlier, pop it round at some point, unless you want to mess with spring compressors more?

I could lend a hand next weekend if that helps - did the springs on mine last year.  I'm in Balsall common so I guess you're not that far from me

Thanks guys.  The second one isn't such a rush, car is running again.  If there's a mini-meet coming up please keep me posted though.
