Gearstick is connected via a rod to the selector unit on the side of the box directly bolted on to it...

Moved with the car in what gear...neutral???

If lights aren't lighting up right, 99 times out of 100 it would be knackered selector switch on side of gearbox.

its the lights on the ignition that come on with key removed not the lights on the gear selector when it is put into the positions

If gear selector is telling the car its in reverse rather than park then the reverse lights would be on

the gear selector was in reverse,, thats why the reversing lights were on,,, when i moved the selector into R the lights on dash went out,,, but it must of only been temporarily cos they came back on and sent power to the reversing lights,,, i know it all very confusing,,,
i took the ignition apart and cant see anything wrong there,,, i did take one of the + leads off the battery and it made the lights go out but then nothing would come on when turned key.. put everything back but now the ecu doesnt seem to recognise the chip in the key,, which happened a couple of time a few days ago ,, if it does start it cuts out right away,,,

WHAT TO DO NEXT?????????????????????????????????
anyone please??????????????
