Electric Mirror goes up, down but not left & right
« on: 16 June 2008, 13:15:06 »

Noticed the other day that my near side mirror only goes up and down now! I know its not the buttons because the off side works fine.

It has always worked fine since I bought the car but there is only me driving so they don't get adjusted very often so its hard to tell when it stopped working

is this a common problem?

Seen a couple of Elites lately with passenger mirror error codes, so maybe is common-ish (though, obviously the elite mirror is different to rest of range).

Not had error codes, didn't think that the mirrors were connected to the ECU. or did you mean something else?

I would just check that

a) the mirror is fully engaged in the sideways adjusting mechanism (I have known them to be disengaged by people impact or as you wash them)

b) the motors are running when attempting the sideways movement

If it is a)  a gentle push on one side of the mirror can re-engage it.  If b) are not running it may be either the mechanism is jammed or a motor has expired.

In the distant past I unclipped the mirror from its holding frame to access the mechansim or replace the mirror, but I do not know if you can still do this. :-/ :-/ :-/

Anyone know?  :-/ :-/

I've just had something similar with mine. It wouldn't move up or down from the switch or via the seat memory buttons but, like yours the driver's side worked OK, so I discounted the switch. The fault with mine was where the mirror plugged into the car doors' loom, square-ish plug. Unplugging and replugging a few times plus an obligatory (sp?) squirt od WD40 seems to have sorted mine.

Only connected to ECUs on Elites.  I was just saying I've seen a couple that had stored intermittent errors with passenger mirror, exactl cause unknown?

Could it be bad contacts in the switch? Maybe try giving it a good wiggle with the ignition off?

Lizzie's theory is also a good one. Get somebody else to operate the switch while you have a listen at the mirror.
