It doesn't work like that, what generally happens is if someone has offered £2650 for a car you should be offering more to secure it

i figured knowing it would be looked after by good old me would have swayed it

It will be fine and if it was up to me I would keep it for myself but the wife is right (but dont tell her I said that)and the estate is more practical for what we use it for.
