Hi,
I'm wondering about the compatibility of gearboxes to engines.
I'm planning to get either a X30XE or a Y32SE but I'm noticing most of the cars with these engines are automatics and I need a manual so,
can I take the engine and whack on a manual box from say an X25XE manual as they seem more common?

I think the one to consider would possibly be the MV6.

The differences are in interior trim and suspension which wont bother you.

The are normally cars for sale on here and some of them have been manual.

The other thing is to look round for an accident damaged Miggy, maybe a side swipe or a rear end shunt.  Just be carfull to make sure the propshaft hasnt done any damage to the gearbox.

If you are going to use a 3.0 or 3.2 you are going to need a r28 manual box. A manual from a 2.5 will not handle the torque of the 3's

R28 was fitted to retail and plod 3.0/3.2 mv6 manuals.

I would buy an manual ex police Omega off Ebay, the older ones dont cost much and you will have an engine, gearbox and if lucky an LSD

An ex police one does seem the way forward.
There seems to be a lot more after market parts for the x30 than the  y32, can't imagine I'll need any more power in a car that weighs about 800 kilos but its nice to know they're there. Will however definitely need a lighter flywheel

Get one from a Cavalier as its solid and can be lightened.......the Omega one is a dual mass setup.

I presume it'll work with the existing clutch?

I'm used to working on Honda engines where almost anything can be bolted to anything else with millions of after market spare parts, having a bit more trouble finding computability lists.
