thermostat is at the back of the plenum, on the rear upper side of the engine, it's not hard to change it but there is some work to be done before you can get to it, you have to remove the plenum, and air intake to be able to get to it. i changed mine few weeks ago in about 1 our. i don't know is there a easier way to get to it. you have back there two of them, and the smaller one with one wire is for the dash.

could be a flaky gauge.  mines been dodgy for the last 5 years.  all it takes is a gentle tap on the dash/gauge and it works.  i'd try that before taking anything apart..

Sorry, thermostat on the V6 is at the front of the engine, nearest the radiator, under the plenum.  The pipe exits under the passenger side head onto the radiator pipe in the vicinity of where the idle control vale sits.  It is the coolant bridge and temp sensors which are towards the rear.   :y

then it's not called thermostat, i don't know all the eng. words of the parts, but the thing that is sending the info to the dash board, is at the back of the engine, there are two of them, one with big connector and one with only one wire. correct me if i'm wrong.

Definitely sounds like the wiring spade is not correctly positiioned on the temp sensor.
