Auto Gearbox
« on: 05 July 2008, 11:04:00 »

just wondered if anyone can help me. I have been having probs with gearbox light coming on, at first intermittant then on all the time. Now and again it has gone into limp home mode so would not change up.
Have sent it to a auto gearbox place in malaga and they are saying its the battery is too low and there is no fault with the box. The car worked fine no probs starting, no gremlins in the electrics everything worked as it should apart from the gearbox, i would have thought there would have been other symptoms with the car if it was just the battery. ie engine ecu etc or is this a known fault.
help please!!!!!!!!!!!!

i had similar problem so changed battery, but problem was till there so checked across terminals and was getting some high readings . turned out it was the aternator. its a possibility. check with meter when enghine running if it goes over 14.4 then you could have same problem :y

is oil level ok? when was level last checked? presume garage in malaga checked that, did they?
paper clip test will not read gearbox ecu, i believe, so you may need a tech 2, perhaps, to diagnose it?
i had an alternator go and it did some strange things, but nothing like this, others have had differant experiences by the sound of it.
But for me , first thing to check would be oil level and go from there, its the cheepest thing to fix, then maybe do diagnostic if its not oil level,  hope helps

oh there is a guide on repairing the altrnator on here

Just read the 1st three posts, I would be checking oil level 1st if it's not battery related.  If thats ok then do an Auto box fluid change and check/clean the filters.
