Auto box and battery
« on: 05 July 2008, 11:41:44 »

Hi there all

Started the car this morning and the battery light was pulsing and the auto box exclamation light was on .  Went to the garage for petrol and it was stuck in third so took it back home.  Checked the battery it has 12.63V and goes up to 15.63V when running so it seems to be charging, but all the interior light, dash lights and main beam go brighter when I rev the engine The auto box light went out on the third start, but has since come back on.
Can anyone please help me on this one, electric’s is not my best subject
Thanks
Lyn

Hi lyn, your volts are a bit high when running, possibly charging regulator circuit now regulating is at should thats why you lights will go bright/dim when revving.

Update
Cleaned all the terminals and checked the voltage again. It seems to very a lot, from 12.6 to 13.5 and even 14 volts. The battery light on the dash has now popped and now the ABS and airbag lights come on when I rev the engine. Auto box warning light comes  on when I rev and stays on.  Is all this down to a faulty alternator and is it safe to drive???
Thanks

Thanks Johnnycboy did not see your post, yes it is high, I even got it to 16.5 with a good rev. Do I run the risk of blowing up the battery as I need to take the Kids into town by 5pm.

Thanks again
