Whats Killing the Battery?? (part 2)
« on: 07 July 2008, 20:47:17 »

Previous:

Well it was fine for a few weeks after pulling the HRW relay (still out).

But over the last 24 hours its killed the Battery 3 times again.

Last night left the car about 2 hours, dead. Measured the Battery 1.5 V, dicounect 4.7 V, (dead battery).

Before I jumped it, I had a bit of a feel around the engine for posible causes (2.5TD), noticed the alloy top cover inlet side was quiet warm, thinking 'cars not run for a couple hours' so I touched the exhaust manifold, warm, but you can comfortable hold onto it, touched the top alloy cover exhaust side, Hot in fact too hot to touch for more than a few seconds!

Starting to think now 'Glow Plugs' (please tell me if Im going of the beaten track here).

Not knowing much about these engines, where are the Glow Plugs situated and what would cause them to switch on after the engines be switched off?

Can someone confirm that the GlowPlug relay box is the one in the pic, (with all the wires showing on the right hand side)?

Plus any info on how it works would be usefull?, ie, is it on a timer or is it tempreture controlled.

plugs in head, just below injectors.

That is relay in the piccy - the 6 thick wires together go to plugs.

Thanks TB, starting to wonder now if the gPlug thing is a red herring, as its the exhaust side top cover (os) that's really getting hot rather than the inlet!
