Anyone got any experience of car covers?

I've got one that I sometimes use, because my parking space happens to have a big-ass tree above it . I can't park elsewhere as I'm in the city centre so it's all restricted parking except for my alloted private space.

Works a treat on the Omega, but when I used it on my BMW it would often blow off due to the car being too small -- it's much the same length but a lot lower so doesn't keep enough tension on the cover. So ensure you get one the right size.

They are a bit of a pain to put on though, only reason I use it is because my car is barely used mid-week, and sometimes not at the weekend either depending on what I choose to do.

Got one from halfords about a year ago, its rubbish so dont get theirs, found some good ones on ebay in the past.

Dont like em if outside......unless its just for each night and taken off during the day.
If your cars all wet when you put the cover on......its not gonna dry.....and left for days/weeks like this can only promote rust and damp.

However if a dry car stored in a garage......they are good for keeping the dust of the paintwork

I've not used car covers, so I'm not speaking from experience.
I've heard that if you use a car cover outside, that the air movement
causes fretting on the contact paint points on the car as the cover
vibrates or moves in relation to the car. This may only show up
after some time as some of the movement is microscopic.

When folk use them for longer term storage, they say to wax the car
and not polish it off, so as to protect the paintwork from any fretting action.

As said, no personal experience, but maybe the important bit is what
the inside material of the cover is, and therefore its effect when rubbing
the paintwork over a long period of time?
