erratic idle EML light on
« on: 11 July 2008, 16:27:34 »

Right. cleaned breathers and throttle asembly today. wa going to do cam cover gasket but no sealant at stealers, or o-rings! so had to put old one back in situ.

1 bolt found missing from butterly thing that secures to block of engine! since re-assembling running lumpy, has stalled and EML light came on.

Advice folks??

First things first is the IACV in and secure ? it really needs forced so its snug and may even need some Fairy Liquid on the rubber housing that goes into the plenum.

Retrace your steps make sure everything is jubileed tightly  and plugged in.

'dangle berries' and edit - i must start to remember you dont only have a 3.0 elite  :(

As said though - if it was fine before hand just retrace your steps, it will be something simple.

The throttle body must be on tight to the inlet manifold or you effectively have an air leak.  What happened, did you chew the nut?  Anyways, paperclip to find the code - if it's ICV then it's not been plugged in properly, otherwise post the code.

I had the same behaviour when I did my 2L.  I wonder if the ECU is learning to breathe?

Check all the vacuum pipes are connected (at both ends).  In my case I found the white one that goes to the EGR (at the back of the camcover) had broken off the EGR.

Just to let you know IACV is not held on by nuts but held on by two alan key type bolts. If you have done the bolts up just a tad to tight then you may have stripped the thread, re-tap the thread, carefully then put two new bolts in, also make sure the gasket is on the right way round as well that can have an effect if this is put on incorrectly.
