As Omegatoy says above :y

Earlier ones had no fan on, later ones have a fan that will seize anyway  :P

It is a bit of a PITA to get to, there's nothing really worth photographing... just a rusty old fan, and a plasticy intercooler a lot smaller than the one in your picture.

On a separate note has anyone upgraded their intercooler on a TD? Is it worth the (probably massive amounts of) hassle?

Why?
I replace mine via the O/s Wheel arch
cost was circa £100

undo the pipes jubilee clips undo 2 bolts, push rubber bellows back and its off, takes ten mins to remove :ywhen you get it off flush it out cos it will be full of oil mist, which when cleaned out does make the car go a lot better!!! reason it fills with oil is its the lowest part of the intake system!!!

for those that dont knw the Bmw uses a full front mounted intercooler which can be fitted to Omegas that DONT have aircon, if you have aircon there isnt room, fitting the bigger intercooler is a bit of a pain but fair gains are made in torque and power by doing so! :y
