Oil in the plug wells
« on: 14 July 2008, 16:46:36 »

Over the weekend some of you were good enough to help me diagnose the possible cause of Oil in the plug wells. What started out as a 10 minute job to change 4 plugs has now turned into a slightly longer problem to resolve. But my question is.....
How do I get the oil out of the wells. If I take the plugs out surely it's going to go into the pots. As far as I can tell I cant remove the cam cover without removing the plugs. So whats a boy to do?

Also....there's always an also!
Would blocked breathers affect fuel consumption?

get pack of kitchen rolls.

Tear 1 bit off.

Roll it into a thin cigar type shape, then push it down... maybe use a screwdriver to push it right down to get the last bits.

OK now I'm confused...again!
To change the Cam gasket I need to undo the 10 torx bolts either side of the ecotech strip correct?

When I lift that off are you saying that the plugs stay where they are?
Sorry to sound dumb but this will be my first gasket change :-[

If you do take the plugs out, I don't think the oil will do any harm at all if allowed to fall into the pots. Will soon burn off, even if it is held in the pots until you start up again.

Too much oil can have very bad effects .. it may foul the plugs and prevent ignition (neat fuel then reaches the cats)..... and can also "coat" the precious metals in the cats with oil  .... both these can damage (if not destroy) them .. an expensive risk for a bit of time with some paper towel !!!
