Hello all, Is there a guide for changing exhaust manifold gaskets on a V6? Is it a long / difficult Job?

Should've came to the lakes meet, one got done there, took a few hours.

Its not to hard a job, the drivers sdie is more invlvoled but, results in easier access.

Took me 3 hours to do the drivers side in the middle of a field in the lake district!

Off the top of my head it goes a bit like this:

First thing to do is jack the car up and pop the front pipe off the manifold (two nuts to the manifold and one bolt to the supprot bracket on the gearbox) and tie it to the gearbox to take some of the weight. A trick to aid getting it off the manifold studs is to press rearwards on the centre silencer.

Then its plenum off, inlet manifold off and remove the coolant bridge (new dowty washers required) and all the rubber water pipes at the back of the engine.

Then remove the header tank and disconnect the pipes to the coolant transfer pipe that runs around the 1-3-5 head.

Now remove the coolant transfer pipe (two bolts at the back of the block, the oil cooler pipes might obscure one of the bolts slightly but a small 1/4 inch hex often gets around this rather than a torx socket, and one bolt to the engine lifting bracket), you will need a new seal for the pipe to block connection.

Now remove the upper manifold heatshield, ther is one bolt hidden at the back and accessed from the back of the block

Now pop the air injection pipe off and the lifting bracket.

Remove the lower heatshield.

Now remove the 7 (13mm) bolts/studs that hold the manifold on.

Clean it up wella dn cehck its all flat before re-fitting with a new genuine gasket (metal multilayer and not composite!)
