engine control module

recently had (service light come on on dash (2002 2.2 omega auto) car went to limp mode,but then light was still on and car seemed to run and pull away fine.called out mobile guy plugged in fault code reader came up with problem ECM,has anybody come across this problem at all?is it a common fault?where is the ECM?does this need to go to vauxhall or can any garage do this,the guy reset the lights,is it possible to still get them faults up without the light coming on?


please can someone help me on this

Think you need to get a cheapo tech 2 to read the codes yourself.  I'd definitely want a second opinion before changing the ECU.  Many garages blame the ECU being faulty when there is nothing wrong with it.  You have a fault of some sorts but you need to get a fault code before anyone can really help.

atf level ok? check cheep/easy stuff first, but sounds like you've got beyond that... :(
