air filter??

hello,my neighbour over the road is vauxhall mad(always fitting turbo engines in corsa's,nova's'astra's etc.... and is a mot tester)anyway i've just heard revving like mad(roaring)so nipped over to see this vectra v6 and he's just drilled the airbox on it(loads of holes)but one hell of a roar and said its cheaper than getting k&n 57i ::) ::)
would this be ok?i thought it would damage the engine etc.......

This was suggested before by Laidback66, however not sure whether it affects the engine in anyway.

ive done it to myn drilled the front and drivers size below filter level i swapped the filter out for a pipercross panel filter and i also rerouted the standard intake

sounds awesome done 6k and no EML light of DTC for the Mass Airflow meter i had a induction kit on my v6 veccy they sound awesome but soon go wrong! so i recommend the drilling method

What size of whole would be best? How many? And just using the standard air filter is ok I presume?

Yeh, increases the noise and buggers the performance.

Your now risking drawing air from the engine bay which will be hot.

These filters do bugger all any way when compared to a well maintained standard item.

vvoc got a 3-5bhp gain with this method sense has to be used as i drilled my holes and used air ducting to draw cool air to the holes i drilled 2 x 12 hole circles with a 8mm drillbit and ran 2 ducts to the air box for both groups of holes

but i have redone my air intake and its now got a direct cold air as i have removed the grill by the drivers side fog light and replaced it with a grill mesh with ally ducting into the air box instead of the restrictive vauxhall one sounds good but no noticed improvement just nice v6 grunt

you must use an no oil panel filter as an oiled one will damage the airflow sensor


but the standard airbox has a bad design beause of the 90 degree bend on it so this will restrict airflow

now and again Courtney twin ram omega air boxes come up on ebay they are the best method as it removes the 90" bend and also doubles the air drawn into the box

Omega airbox about 50% bigger than a Vectra B airbox, I would imagine the volume of air and flow rate of the Omega one is far better.

Vectra B inlet piping (the variable tract pipes etc) are quite restrictive, 3 pipe mod helps but many seem to suffer flat spots.

vectra b has 3 resinators in it yep three pipe mod with a pipercross will give a 3bhp gain proven on vvoc!

to remove the flat spots on a v6 veccy they change the fpr fot a 3.8 bar one and swapping the flywheel also helps

I am wary of these increases on Omegas.  STandard pattern filters are smaller than genuine ones, so I guess there is an improvement to be had if comparing to standard pattern filters.  But the OE one is huge!

I am wary of these increases on anything, 3hp is within the measurable accuracy of he kit and I have seen that much varience on the same car run twice within 1 hour without any changes!
