Need a device that supports ELM327

What do you want to read? Just the Engine Management or all of the cars systems?

Something like: http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_ENGVAUX.html seems quite comprehensive but there is better depending on how much you want to spend.

It will read engine management on most 2001 (EOBD) cars.

I found the same with the Opel Autoscanner, it will read most GM cars (so Saab, Daewoo, Chevrolet, Vauxhall) as well as a few others with varying success.

I would like to read everything lol , but i know thats going to cost big bucks !... if it could read any faults on my car but could also be used for other cars , ie if my friends engine light came on so i could pin point the problem then that would do  ::)

2.2/2.6/3.2 are all ODBII complaint.  Obviously OBDII only covers engine.  OBDII is generally relatively std on all marques from 2001 petrols and 2003 diesels.

To read all systems, not just engine, you need something a little more propietry...

All depends on the vehicles / manufacturers involved and hence the protocols required. The codes on all cars after 2001 petrol and 2004 diesel (I think!) are all OBDII compliant.

Only diagnostics that will read virtually everything on most Vauxhalls from 1987 (With ALDL adapter cable) is Opel AutoScanner which also offers live data and some extra test and diags, Other than that you are looking at a real Tech II.

There is another option that might be worth a look - Bluetooth and usb diag connectors are available and a wealth of free / cheap diag software is available (freescan etc) but nothing will ever do everything TBH.

Edit: TB beat me to it! LOL
