Eddie,

Welcome to the forum!

I can't help with the revs but someone will (BTW - I always try to put the fault in the heading of the message, rather than just 'problem')

Sounds like you have a stuck open stat - so good idea to change that.   There are suppliers on ebay but I seem to recall the Vx trade price is not too bad,  you'll need the seal too.

Cambelt kit (note you need the full kit inc tensioner/rollers) - either Vx or Gates, Contitech I think are ok.  You could try Autovaux (they'll give you 5-10% off for being 'in the club').
Water pump - I would go Vx.

Cheers
Ian

Most likely reason is your connector or wiring from the engine temp sensor is loose.  I don't know where it is on the 2.2 but on the 2.0 litre it's around the dispack area [edit] - just rememembered I don't think the 2.2 has a dispack so have a feel around the back of the cylinder head.  It's a little metal disc with a spade connector on it.  They're similar engines so it will probably be in the same area.  Someone else will have to confirm its position.

If this connector is loose it will interfere with both your rev counter and your temp on your dash.
