Aircon problem need advice
« on: 23 July 2008, 18:55:09 »

As above, I have had the aircon system checked and there is no leakage from anywhere that is visible. I have checked the pipes and pipe valves for any possible leaks and there is none. I have had the system regassed twice now on the cheap lasted for a couple of days then no aircon gas/fluid, the pipes are cold for those couple of days but now nothing. My question is could this be down to the aircon pump not working properly? It does rotate no problem the clutch engages no problem, could this be the internals not working problem? If so is there an easy fix or is this going to be a new/secondhand pump?

Was dye put in at the regas? It seems that most places, like tyre centres,  don't add it routinely.
Mine lasts around a month at the moment, I put dye in and am starting to see a stain under the compressor.
I would have thought two days or so to empty would show on a pressure test.

You definately have a leak - probably bottom of condensor.  Get an aircon "expert" to check - they can use a "sniffer" to locate leak.

If it only works for 2 days after re-filling then it has a sizeable leak. (assuming it was filled properly)
UV sensitive dye should have been added at the refill, if it was you will see a green-yellow stain at the leak site which is likely to be the condensor (front most 'radiator') or the compressor.
Are the screw-on sealing caps in place on the service ports? These must be fitted, the schrader valves wont seal completely on their own.

If you cant see any dye or obvious signs of corrosion to the condensor then you have to go to a proper a/c specialist, they can fill with nitrogen and a 'scent' that an electronic sniffer can find and pinpoint the leak.
Please dont accept another re-fill on the cheap, its not environmentally responsible.
