Hi thinking of a major service on my 2.5 v6. And was wondering how good main dealers where. As regards quality of service and value for money. Thanks Ian.

You can do everything yourself and save a fortune, especially if you join ABS for £20 and use the trade card they send you ... You'll save that on your first visit to buy oil/filter/plugs and wipers !!

Very expensive an IMO poor quality...

Your car will most likely be given to a spotty 17 year old grease monkey to service and he may not even remember what to do!!!  :o :o ::) ::)

Thanks everyone used to do all my own servicing but am now disabled. Will look round for an independent mechanic i think. Probably get it cheaper for a cash job as well.

Lifting the bonnet on the V6 I think is rather frightening when you first get one, I just closed it again ;D until I had gained some idea from this forum on how to do things :y
But being honest it isn't as hard as it first seems. :y

Sounds like theres more chance of next doors cat doing a better job.

sump bolt, oil filter canister and auto box level bolt
All massivly over tightened on myn. I nearly pulled the car
Off the jack undoing the filter canister, while i was
under it. ( had axle stands ar well for safety )
And my mech nearly snapped his spanner on the level
Bolt. He had a long handled double ring spanner, it flew out
Of his hand as it audibly cracked the seal.

Vauxhall only history.

Dont surprise me...

Same with most main dealers...

My mum had a fiesta, and asked them to check gearbox oil (car still under warrenty), anyway, when my mum got back, I lifted the bonnet and had a look....

The gearbox level plug was only just held in by about 2 turns! So I had to finish the job off myself!  >:(

I got my HBV changed at a local dealer (before I became enlightened on here..).  When I got the car back the EGR was broken.  It wasn't before I know.   Pretty obvious to me that the mech had been leaning on it. >:(

Just avoid the dealers, mostly they dont know what they are doing but will charge you a lot of money to 'have a go'. The very last time I visited a dealer was when I had just picked up my current Elite. The rear speakers werent working and at that point I didnt know where to find the various connections so I asked them to look at it. They charged me for 'diagnosis' the result of which was that they couldnt work out what was wrong but I probably needed a new head unit, thats £112 for recon unit + fitting please. I didnt let them do it, did a bit of googling (and asked on here) and found out where the AMP was - its in the boot. Took me about 5 seconds to find it and realise the plug was hanging off. Pushed it back on , problem solved.

Now anyone can make a mistake but when I complained to the dealer they were adamant that they had done all the right checks and that changing the head unit was the right advice. apparently I was just 'lucky' that the connector I checked was causing the fault and that they couldnt check all connectors. Idiots the lot of them
