Hi all -

I have been a proud Omega owner for the last 4 years - Y Reg - 2.2 CD - beautiful car in every way - but recent intractable sensor problems, very high fuel consumption etc. etc. - have meant it's expensive to run - and it's getting really costly in repairs (I'm not gifted, maintenance wise!).

I HAVE LOVED this car, and I want another Omega if possible.... now, would you believe, I have been offered (by a trusted friend) another absolutely immaculate Y Reg 2.2 - CDX Auto Leather - for £1,500 and I'm tempted to buy it [downside is it has 156K on the clock, but it's had a recent set of tyres, cambelt replacement 2 months ago, also fitted with newish (gas) shockers] It is returning a good 20% better fuel economy than my CD, too.

I'm thinking of scrapping the CD and buying the CDX. Does that seem reasonable - or too big a gamble?? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks.

I would say that was bordering on the expensive side with that mileage, you can get cheaper on autotrader with less mileage, the bottom has fell out of the omega's at the moment with fuel prices, I considered part exchanging mine earlier this week, a cdx auto 2.2i 124000 on the clock good history and only got offered between 500 and a £1000, also mine does not fall into the tax increase, which is having a negative affect at the moment

What about LPG and plus if you have spent alot money on your car then i would keep it. An LPG system would set you back about £500 to £700 may even be less than as that is the price for a V6 engine DIY.

First thing they say on here with 4 pot is clean the inlet
Breather and tick over system, iirc. Sure there is a guide
As well.
Did i see a post about oil in the plug wells on a 4 pot
A while back.
Worth a try with the pedal trick as well, see if it works on
yours. Press brake, gas to the floor, turn ignition on
Fully but do not fire the engine. Dash light should flash
Codes out. Count the flashes in sets of 4 10 is zero.
Constant flashing no codes. Hope helps.

May not work on a 2.2.

But as said above, whats a matter with it?

Apart from the usual cam sensor problem, 2.2's are pretty reliable, easy to maintain, and reasonably economical.

How many miles has it done, has it been seviced regularly?

it would be a waste to scrap a car because it has sensor problems.
it would be worth contacting marksdtm  or the boy and booking a tech 2 session.
it wont cost a fortune and i would be sirprised if you didnt get your problem sorted.
