« on: 21 July 2008, 19:09:45 »

Hi eveyone, my 2.5cdx auto just developed engine problems, after catching the curb slightly with my exhaust the other day(may not be related). every time i slow for a juntion or coast the engine cut out and is a pig to restart, as if out of fuel.wait 5 mins and it`l start and drive ok until next juntion. also noticed slight blowing sound on left side of engine as you look from the front.dont know if its inlet or exhaust.I dont trust it anymore n left it at work, now getting lifts.can anyone help PLEASE. steve

The exhaust blow if from engine bay COULD be the exhaust manifold gasket, which seems to be quite common.
The cutting out is probably blocked breather system and the IACV needs cleaning out.

Have a look through the Maintenence guisdes section, you will find all you need to know in there my friend :y

Idle Air Control Valve, as you look at the engine from the front, its on the right hand side of the big silver plenum ;)
Like i said if you look through the guides i said you will find all about it and some pics

Hi Steve,
Try the paperclip test, I think there could be a code 19 in there somewhere ;)

Hi, done paper clip test and sure enough it came up as code 19 (crank shaft sensor) i think iv`e found it next to the oil filter housing?. if im right then i cant seem to trace it up into the engine bay, where does it connect to? what do i need to take off to get to it? cheers steve

I would only use a Vauxhall cranks sensor, ive known a few people to buy pattern parts only for them to pack up after a few weeks.

Right then, iv changed the crank sensor and it was still cutting out aaarrrrgggg 65 quid worse off now.A local mechanic plugged his thingy in and said ERG valve came up,he checked the values with multimeter and said all was ok,cleaned out the breathers still no joy,He then suspected fueling probs so checked 4 pressure and that was ok,we got sparks to,then came 2 new relays for fuel pump n injectors. Bingo :y starts every time and runs ok but did cough a few times when i got on the loud pedel.Still dont trust it yet so got the mondeo back on the road.Be glad of some more advice chaps                              cheers steve :-/
