Hello again all.

Ok so, I have me wheels booked in at a vauxhall dealer for tomorrow morning to try and find out why none of my clocks are working but they want lots of money just to tell me what is wrong, (assuming they find the problem), so I'm about to pop outside and take the clocks out/back in/check connectors/fuses (No. 14?), etc.

In the meantime, if anyone has any pointers as to possible causes I'd be much appreciative. I appreciate the difficulty in not having the car to hand but someone may know a simple thing or two.

To clarify, speedo, revs, temp and fuel guages do not move at all and haven't since I got the car. For obvious reasons it would be nice to know how fast I'm going and how much fuel I gots left, temp wouldn't go amiss either. Fuel guage is not critical as I have an LPG conversion and it has it's own guage. But still..

P.S. I have searched these boards using the terms: Instrument/Panel, Gauges, Clocks etc. But to no avail, except a post about fuse 14, hence the ? above.

......and with mine it WAS fuse 14 that had blown!  Check that first I suggest.

Is your radio out, and the drivers interior light either out, or a least very dim?

If they are, it IS fuse 14!

Push the clocks back, there's a plug at the rear that the dial connections fit into

also check 0v points to chassis, in case one has come adrift...

I'd already been through every fuse on the car as a matter of course but was gonna check them again in case.
But, after seeing the video on how to pop out the clocks and how it was so easy, I did that first aannnd...(drumroll):

The flexible plastic circuitry film, (that you also find in some keyboards), had one side folded back by accident. It wasn't even able to connect with one bank of pins on that push-in connector dbug and Pete mentioned. Presumably happened last time someone had the clocks out.

I'd have got back here sooner to let you all know I had it done but I was putting my children to bed. As I was in the car I sorted a couple of redesigned Isofix points for the youngest's childseat then happily redid all the flappy bits in all the vents. I was always happiest when tooling around, so to speak. As I was finishing up, their mother brought them home. (Long story).

So there we go, all clocks sorted and , as an added bonus, the ABS light seems to have stopped coming on after a few brakes, although the squeal is a tad annoying. New shoes and possibly discs maybe, see what state they are in later. What else..? Oh yes, black headlights/side blinkers to match the rear lights, new bonnet, repair the nasty crease in the n/s wing and a properly black shroud for the o/s wing miror to replace that 'orrible dark grey one. Mammoth T-cut session after that and I'll be a happy camper.  

Incidentally, as this stereo has a code, will I encounter any problems wiring in a spare headunit I have lurking around? Also, there is a second plug for the back of the existing headunit on the end of a second set of wires with it's opposite plug wired into this same second set of wires, but a few inches back. (So a spare male And female plug). Why for art they there I wonder. Mayhap I have the infamous Time-Machine prototype.   Certainly no room for a secondary headunit, not in the dash anyways.

Blimey, I'm rambling...I do that.

Thanks again for the speedy aid. Will pop into the dealers in the morning to let them know I sorted the problem, least I can do after I booked a slot of their time. Still, near £50 saved with less than ten minutes work. Ideal.
