I would go to the dealers and get a genuine one.

But get enrolled on a Trade Club card, the discounts make it worth while.

sorry to hijack but my backbox is shot to bits as well so interested to hear some tips.

Plenty of boxes on egay for under £30 but must be of dubious quality?

I have a contact in Partco and i usually go to them for all my bits (better than trade prices ;)) but not sure what they supply tailpipe wise

Should the standard box have twin shiny tail pipes like the one i'm replacing (not so shiny now :D)?

no no no no no.....

Get trade access from Autobahnstormers, or get access to a TC card.

Fit GM, best value for money and will last MUCH longer, and sound MUCH better.

Pattern is false economy

Hi,
Get genuine one, good value with TC.

But it won't have the nice chromed tailpipes though. They dont make them anymore. (so dealer tells me)

Hi,
I have just paid £95.00 (not inc VAT) for back box, but mine is 3.2 estate, so I think dearer than for yours.

My original system lasted 7 years. I replaced it with genuine GM and am now three years and nearly 30K miles on. Economy all comes down to how long you keep the car for. If your not going to keep it for more than a couple of years get a pattern part it may sound different and possibly noisier if thats your barrow but it probably won't fit as well and may limit clearance as the silencer boxes are usually a  completely different shape If you need to cut your cloth that way it is probably not an issue. I paid £62 inclusive (in '05) at trade club prices for the single pipe 2.5V6 item. You could fit it yourself or even pay beer tokens early on a Sunday morning at your local fast fit for them to do it for you. Bet you won't save much over pattern at these prices. Never heard a definitive answer as to why you should not fit a single outlet 2.5 back box to a 3.0 litre. (suspect I soon will though)
