2.6 V6 Auto
« on: 18 August 2008, 21:56:39 »

Hi all my mate has got a 2.6 v6 auto 2001. with a slight missfire fire. The car has been in numerous garages and had various bits changed ie air flow sensor, both coil packs, has had rocker cover gaskets, inlet manifold gaskets and still has this slight missfire. When the car is stationary the car is shaking  but when driving all is smooth. We just done a code check with the brake pedal and accelerator pressed and came up with 0300. Which on Entwoods code list is P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected. Anyone know how we can cure this help be much appriciated as pocket is started to get very empty.

read the codes?

If it was a 2.2 would have said cam sensor.

Could be one of the knock sensors?  :-/

Has anyone tried changing the plugs and leads recently, that would have been my first thought with random missfires especially if there is any hesitation on accelerating from low revs?
Leads are very expensive from Vauxhall, but there are pattern parts that work.

My 2.5 was doing the exact same until I changed the plugs & scraped the crap out of the ignition leads & drained the oil out of the plug wells.

But I may have been lucky that is was that simple a fix.

Given the list of stuff thats been changed I'd assume the plugs and leads were changed but if not then they would be the most likely causes not yet eliminated.

Best of luck with it and let us know how he gets on  :y

That's right! The 'coil per plug unit' which replaces them can deteriorate in the same sort of way. When I did my passenger side cam cover gasket, (the EML was flashing),I found the CPP unit cracked in several places and flooded with oil. I actually cleaned it up and replaced it after several baths in WD40 and it's given no trouble since, but perhaps I was lucky. Try it anyway. Good luck.

plugs? Esp if its been stood for a period at any point.the service interval is 40k but not unknown for a plug or 2 to go down. I would pull them all out and check them at the very least.  4 electrode jobs from vx are best deal. Having said all that the random code would suggest something further up the supply. Are the coil packs sided? I seem to remember numbers on myn.
Maybe check electrical connectors to coil packs? Its not unknown for wires to get chafed and short out. Not sure where you go after that. Compression test perhaps?
