2.5TD Tractor sudden drop in MPG ??
« on: 20 August 2008, 18:15:34 »

Mainly drive the Estate in and arround London, Fully Loaded with bits and Stuff on the Roof. Was averaging 37 to 40 MPG.

Last couple of weeks Im down to 30 - 33 MPG. Checked for Petrol leaks, Oil and Water all Ok, No change in driving style and no apperent loss in performance (just as slow). Also tried variants of different Petrol Co.s

Any thoughts on what I could be looking for?

as stated by the boy leakoff pipes are favourite here BUT  dont forget to check the kong one that returns to the pump as it goes under the inlet manifold out of sight is a favourite place for leaks to hide!!! :y

I had one with leaky injector 4? the one with the wire. It used to leave bad stains whenever it was wet on the ground, Mpg was no worse than 30-34 same as previous and post MAF noMAF. Are you going by the computer,or tankfull. I do not believe a laden est will do 37-40 with stuff on the bars.

I cant find any leaks or stains any where, checking the MPG with both MID and Tank, the Mid seems to be spot on.

Must point out mine is a Manual, makes a big difference over a Auto when driving fully loaded in stop start London. :y

worth checking leak-off pipes

I am assuming that these are the ones that link all the injectors together. Also do they have a oneway system inside themand if they do I assume that it would go from the back injector (no 6) to the front. Only asking as I will be replacing these pipes this weekend as I always seem to get air stuck in the no 5 injector.

Got told my an ex-mechanic if you place a rod on the injector you can hear the difference between one with air trapped and one not. Doing the Diesel Magic on it as well to try and stop the intermittant EMl I get.

Wish I got that MPG on short city driving journeys, mine is always around the 33 mpg.......longer motorway journeys around 42/45 mpg, are you sure the figures are correct?
