Hi anyone know if i can fit 225/60-16 to the rear of my omega.  currently has 225/55-16s

Whats wrong with fitting the correct size? Would look better anyway as lower profile...

If fitting different sizes you would need to change both tyres to the 60 low profiles at least

The difference would be small, about 22mm in the diameter of the tyre, so do-able. I wondered why you wanted to fit them, perhaps you have some cheap, fair enough reason. Fitting on rear only? What size spare are you going to carry? It will lift the back of the car a little. I suppose as long as you can justify it, 225/55/16 is normal size Omega tyres.

I found a good guide to tyre equivalence on the web when i was looking to replace mine. I think the important thing from a legal perspective is the need to make sure the speedo is not registering less speed from standard recommended sizes, or more than 3% difference.

A quick look shows that replacing your 225/60's with 225/55's would mean you are reading 3.4% less on the speedo than you were or possibly should. Speedo should be re-calibrated. But you must check what the standard fittment should be to start with first, then compare with your preferred choice.

Oops, just re-read your post (got the sizes the wrong way round in my reply so did a re-check).

Fitting 225/60's instead of your current 225/55's mean your speedo is reading 3.4% less.

It is all about percentages, a 55 profile is a smaller tyre in radius than a 60 for a set width/diameter. So as Agemo says, fitting a 60 would raise the car by a little, because it is a larger diameter tyre - hence you are travelling more per revolution of the wheel than before so speedo under estimates speed.
