Hi and welcome,
Not sure I can help with the heater problem - hopefully someone else can....

Sounds like your camcover seals are gone (due to blocked breathers) - hence the oil leak onto hot exhaust -> smelly.
There are excellent maintenance guides on here for cleaning breathers and replacing the seals.

Dont worry about the emulsion.Take it for a blast (mway etc) and have another look - will probably have gone.

You could do with updaying your profile mate so we know what year etc your car is  :y

You could try resetting your climate control, hold the auto and off buttons at the same time for around 3 seconds. This should set up your blower flaps. :y

Let us know how you get on

Hi thankyou for the help Ians and low- knee.
Did try reseting the flaps for direction all working well and plenty of air, its just cold at pass side. don't know if this will help but came home from work last winter and the heater blower stayed on, couldnt turn it off. Took out the ignition key etc, got up next morn and it had stopped, but it seems after that the problems started.

It sometimes seems the waters not flowing all the way around the engine and then it gets a bit hot and blows the oil?

Did try to clean the breather system but couldn't remove it from the front of the engine, will have another go...thanks

Follow the guide for the breathers.  I'm not sure what you mean by 'front of the engine' - do you mean the throttle body?

The cam seals often blow when the breathers are blocked. Tell tale is that if you pull a plug lead off you will likely find oil in the plug well.

Hi ians, sorry mate ,  ;D yes i think its the throtle body, opposite end to the cluster of breather pipes...they look to be 2 short plastic pipes and a type of bayonet fitting shape on the photos, didn't want to prise them to hard.

Pulled the plug leads ....no oil sitting there.

thanks for your help mate its driving me potty :y

Its still probably leaking camcover seals - unless you have a transmission fluid leak?

I'm not sure off hand what the bayonet bit is?   The only problem I recall with that job was detaching the throttle cable (failed , left the throttle body on the car in the send and cleaned it in the engine bay).

Hi, I think i must be at the wrong bit...are we talking about the plastic section on the top of the engine? at the bulk head end is the breather pipes, in the midle its connected to the top block by an hex bolt, at the opposite end theres 2 very short plastic pipes that then go into the front block section....when i saw a pic of these they look to be like a bayonet type fitting to stop them pulling out. the section i read on here, the guy says to clean out the breather box with thin wire?

OK
- the black plastic bit (AKA Ecotec bit - guess why..) needs removing and cleaning out. Undo the bolt and it will ease off the plenum (there is a funny shaped oring type seal to plenum)
- the 'top block' is the plenum - not really needed to remove for breather cleaning unless you are doing the camcover seals (I always have though)
- the 'front block section' is the throttle body - this does need removing and cleaning thoroughly. (I think you need to remove this before the ecotec bit from memory). Once you have undone the bolts and hoses/loom it should just ease off.
the black plastic ecotec pipes are a push fit into the throttle body (oring seals)
- the breather box is at the back behind the plenum, slightly to the drivers side - the pipes off the back of the ecotec bit go it it
