Just wondering if anyone has any advice on the following, whether it is anything I should worry about or get fixed. I've got an Omega estate which presumably has the self levelling suspension. I drive it pretty much every day on the motorway and the car is smooth and relaxed as you would expect.

I've been in France for the last week and when the car is heavily loaded (i.e. boot is full of stuff and back is full of kids) there is a slight vibration from around 70mph upwards. the vibration feels as if a rear wheel is un balanced as it does not affect the steering. I don't understand how this could be the cause, however, why would a wheel become unbalanced just because is was carrying more of a load?

I did change the tyre pressures before the trip (but haven't changed them back yet and the vibration is gone again). And before you say, I have checked it isn't my eldest kicking the back of my seat ;)

Strangely I also recall the same effect from my previous 2.5 estate (this is a 3.2 Elite, the 2.5 was a bit economical!!).

Since it is off to VX soon for an MOT and service (still getting them to do it as it has a quite young 36K miles) I thought I'd ask in case there is anything I should get them to do........

Great forum, always interesting, thanks in advance.

With this type of problem many members now have used the services of Wheels In Motion  http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/   and have highly rated their specialist ability to check out everything to do with a miggy's running. :y :y :y

They apparently have all the equipment to correctly check out the running geometry and set up of an Omega plus a lot more to do with wheels, suspension, etc., that is light years ahead of any Vx dealer's capability. ;)

Hope this helps. ;)

I think I'll definately consider a trip to WIM before any further long continental trips, would be a worthwhile investment based on what others have said.

Cheers again for all the advice, lots of help there.

BTW, dealer is Platinum in Chippenham as closer to where I live - thanks for the offer of help, I will bear it in mind in the future certainly!

Dealer is just doing what is required, not too much more (although once they did fix a multitude of problems they previously indicated were outside the network Q warranty on my previous Omega because they happened to have it for a day, for free. I was so speechless I think I forgot to thank them....)

Have you had the brakes done recently, I got vibration once but only at speed from a semi seized caliper piston.

Good point Hog :y

I had my wheels balanced prior to a recent visit to beautiful Scotland, I've increased my pressures slightly to compensate for my extra weight and roofbox, all was running smoothly before, noticed a front end vibration at higher speeds.

When driving down a farm track to our campsite, with the window open, I noticed a light clanking from front right, if I applied the brakes everso slightly, it cleared....   Think I've got a sticking piston too! Could be my vibration :-/

Has anyone thought about the possibility that this problem may be one of the rear drive shaft CV Joints being worn in some way. I was thinking that as the car is loaded, it will sink down on the suspension, thus altering the angle of drive through the CV joints.
I know the car has not done too many miles, but just trying to figure out what it COULD be.  ::)

Cheers
