« on: 30 August 2008, 12:33:45 »

Hi
Can anyone help me. My rear blind isn't rising. you can hear a relay click but nothing else. Is there a reset for the blind or is it a strip down job. Also can anyone tell me the type of satnav in the omega so i can get an upto date roads disc. cheers :y

First thing to try, before stripping anything down, is to get a mate to give it a gentle tug while you operate the switch -- that often works. If that fails then think about digging around the works as detailed in other posts on here

It might just be jammed, so may be able to help it up manually while someone operates it.

Navteq make the maps, but when you call them, ensure you tell them which type (Carin on prefacelifts, Siemens VDO on facelifts).  Always use the original disk, as neither the Carin nor the Siemens CD lasers last too long if used with CDRs.

Re the Sat Nav both Navteq and Teleatlas make compatible mapping discs just make sure its for the Carin/VDO navigation system (I assume your miggy has a Carin system however GM did switch brands to a rival system in late 1999ish. BMW branded CD discs also work perfectly fine and are often on ebay the most available and hence the cheapest. Just make sure you get the CD rather then DVD version. I have never had a problem with a CDR disc in 7 years of use with Carin. Bere in mind if you buy a new mapping disc Carin will be very slow as there is alot more information on the latest mapping disc's which this now obsolete system was never really meant to handle. A bit like trying to load Windows Vista on a Pentium 3, works but a little slow. You may wish to try the CDR route first  ;) to see if the performance justifies the cash outlay which you may feel is better spent on a modern budget plug in system you could easily buy for not much more then a new map disc.
