facelift 2.5td tuning chip
« on: 06 September 2008, 09:46:01 »

Thinking of chipping my 99v 2.5td , anyone know if you can get a good one for a reasonable price (£100-£200) or is it a case of "you get what you pay for"  . Don't mind paying more if it's worth the extra! Any thoughts welcome , cheers. (sorry to anyone who's replied so far, it's a manual gearbox so should be fairly bulletproof )

A very bad idea if you still have the standard gear box which i believe is AR25 which is rated to take 250nm to torque, this box is border line already and any tuning will more than likely 'dangle berries' it. Had i guy on here with 60k on the clock and it was slipping, a sign of box doom. The fix is to fit an AR35 box rated at 350nm then tune the nuts off it. Box aint that expensive either. Hope helps.

TD boxes regularly fail pretty quick even without tuning...as said you WILL need an AR35 box to upgrade the chip...

Got 3 good ones here, £100 each :)

Omegatoy is one user to contact as reagrds uprating the diesel.  And, as others say, uprating the auto gearbox is also a must.  It will self destruct in no time if left as the standard...  :y

Its just the autos which fail, if you have a manual, its no worries!!

do not chip it if you have the standard autobox fitted.

Just had this done, mine also a manual so no problems there.
If you want I can give you the details of my chip and how to obtain one, I did it through this forum.
The results of rechipping are remarkable makes driving the TD a pleasure now rather than the slug it was before, and so far getting around 5mpg more out of it.
Sent me a PM and I'll give you the info as I don't like passing on names and phone numbers over the forum.

I wouldn't go that far - the MV6 will leave it for dust, but it is a much more impressive car than it was pre chipped...

As said earlier had mine chipped recently, and it now goes like sh*t.
Never driven a 3 litre, this is fast enough for me when needed.
