Strange goings on!
« on: 09 September 2008, 20:09:40 »

Ok guys, could do with a bit of help here, :y 1st off after reading the forums i pulled the (as you look at the car) Rear left plug lead off to check for oil in the well, which gladly there was none! :) but put the lead back on and it clicked on nicely but upon starting the car it had a mis fire, which it didn't before, so i'm assuming i've done somthing the lead i removed but there's nothing visibly wrong >:( With the car running i can remove this lead and it makes no change to the way it runs, as you would expect it too if it were working correctly.

I've bought a set of leads today but it looks a mighty task to change the 6 leads only to re start with the same problem :'(

Any ideas?

Also i've tried this pedal test to see if any other cylinders are missing but i cant seem to get it to do anything? :-/

Car is a manual 98(s) 2.5 v6 cdx

Cheers guys

You can't do the pedal test on that engine, you have to do the paper clip test.

Unlikely but are you sure the plug lead hasn't detached itself from the Dispack end?

That explains the pedal trick then ;D

Its unlikely i pulled the dis pack end off as i didn't pull the lead that hard, but yeah i'll check that, gonna change the leads anyway i think. What a tart of a job that looks to do, i've read the guides and there isn't anything that covers ht lead removal, any tips for getting to the r/h/ side bank? that looks mega grie :'(f

Thanks guys!

When you pulled the lead :(  did you pull the lead itself or the end by the plug itself ??  It's possible you have pulled the lead partially out of the socket and it is not now making contact with the end of the plug ...

The leads are not strong enough to be used as ropes !!!

:)

  Hi,
When i bought my Miggy i also had a missfire and when i changed the leads i found out that #3 lead was as Entwood said and had been pulled on and had come away from the part that actually goes on the plug!
As for fitting new leads, lots of swearing and moaning should get you there in the end, remove the scuttle for better access and make sure you make a note of where the leads came off the Diss. pack and that they go back in the same place!!!

        Hope this helps,
                              Pete :y.

ok, managed to change the plugs and leads today (what a idiot of a job >:( ) started car and guess what? still missing on cyl 5 so can only be the dis pack at fault now, so some more swearing and skinned knuckles later, oh and a new tool manufactured my dis pack was removed >:(. now the plastic at one end has come apart and the internal metal plates are rusted so i'm assuming its scrap. :'(

Main stealers wanted about £150 plus vat for a new one :'( this is where you guys become important,

Shall i buy one from them or are the aftermarket ones just as good? if so does anyone know a good place to get one :question
Cheers guys

   Hi Russ,
Glad you got your leads on ok but sorry that wasn't the problem :'(.

As for a Diss. pack i wouldn't pay £150 for one, look on eBay but make sure you get the right one as there are 3 types :-/.

russ, they are a lot cheaper than that, especially from some of the helpfull breaker types on here  :y

All you need is the number stamped on the body of the DIS unit - unfortunately VX probably used 3 different number variants and you need  to know which number is yours.

Perhaps ringing the VX dealer and ask him to part with the number then start shopping around!

I have the dis pack here! and its part no. Strangely main stealers are cheaper than my 2 local motor factors! :-? :o Autovaux are petty competetive at £75 delivered. Are after market units usually ok or are they a stay away thing? :question

It's up to you really Russ, all depends if you've got the funds to spare.

At least with a new one you get a guarantee not to say that if you bought a second hand one off the forum you wouldn't get a replacement if faulty but does save the messing about :-/.
