No speedo, ABS or TC
« on: 14 September 2008, 17:50:04 »

Just done a 40 mile round trip and had the above go off and come back on again 3 times in total. I am going to have a look at the rear ABS sensors and clean up the slots on the drive shafts (have had a long standing pinion shaft seal leak) am I on the right track or is there anything else? (Hopefully not the control unit!)

ABS ECU for sure ... you can get it repaired by BBA-Reman for around £130 ( a year ago price), a new one from Vx for £300, or a scrappy one ... if you go the scrappy route, it must be from EXACTLY the same car/engine type or it'll need a visit to a tech2 to "match" it to the car.

Not the easiest thing to replace ..

You can try cleaning rear sensors - hope it works for you.

If not then deffo ABS ECU breaked.  Barsteward of a job - route either recon your unit (~£130) or fit used good (~£40) but must get one same year/model as yours.

Search for ABS ECU for links/how tos.

Cheers Timbuk. Is this from personal experience? If so does this mean replacing the unit. What sort of ballpark to fix. Assume refurb or used unit is way to go. Where is it located?

Updated - Looks like they are all answered above thanks.

Got 2 here that would do you but as stated would need a tech2 to reprogram for your cars spec...off a 98 elite but 3.0 version...probably only the engine size that would need altering...members in Nottingham with tech2 though so maybe you could ask them nicely??? :)

ABS/TC unit is located inside the engine bay, passengers side, just right of the engine as you look at it from the front of the car...has the brake pipes running out of it...ecu is the black box attached to it...

Passenger side under bonnet.  Behind battery, below power steer resevoir, you should see ABS block (lots of brake pipes connected).  Bolted to front of this is ABS ECU - held by 6 x torx screws (U can see top 2 only) with large elec plug ½ way down ECU and small elec plug under.

Already used Marks DTM's Tech II wizzardry but it doesn't seem to like my car! (well TIS doesn't to be precise). Will try the sensors first but advice appreciated and recognise I may be wasting my time. Will get back if I need to move to plan B.

Cheers guys. Link looks just the job. Been out and had a peer at it in the car see what you mean about access. Was hoping for a quiet time for a while having just done the head gaskets but no suck luck by the sounds of it. :-?. I reckon the Omega was jealous at the attention I was giving my 406 Coupe yesterday. First time in ages I have done anything on the Pug so the petulant miggy decides to throw a strop just to show me who's boss.  :D :D :D ;D. Cars definitely are female. ::)
