0335 crank sensor fault. Help how to fix please
« on: 07 May 2007, 21:57:53 »

Have got a fault code 0335 crank sensor from paperclip test. I need some advice on sorting out the problem. Is it just needs a new sensor? If so is it possible to fix yourself or is it a garage job. Have not got haynes manual yet as the car is new to me so no reference.

Thanks

Was the engine running?  If not then you will get that fault code ;)

I have looked up code, and it is a fault. Basically, the ECU is not seeing all the pulses.  There are a few causes, but by far the most likely is the sensor

Hi there Moorej91

How is the car running?  It is possible to do the job yourself, you will need some torx sockets as there are a few bolts to undo and keep in order as some are defferent sizes. It is located on the right hand side of the engine behind the power steering pump, you can follow the wire that goes over the top front of the engine, down the side and disappears behind the p/s pump. When I did mine on the 2.0 X20XEV model, I undid the p/s pump and the aircon pump, undid the bracket holding the pumps, moved them forward, which gave me loads of room to undo the crank sensor bolt and change it. Another way to do it is by undoing the engine mounting on that side, but I dont know what that involves. If you decide to do the job, make sure that you get the correct sensor, as I think there are two different types from what I remember, the ends that connect to the wiring are slightly different.  Good Luck,

Hi Omegalyn,

Thanks for your reply. Was very informative and gave me some idea of what was involved. When I was younger I used to do all my own repairs, but now find it easier to get someone else to do it if I can afford to. I have today had a quote to do a diagnostic check for £25 to check to make sure of the fault and fit a crank sensor for £35 labour. I think it might be worth the money to have someone else do it. It is being done at an auto electrician who has been recomended to me.
The car runs really well apart from the eml which is sometimes on and sometimes off.

Thanks again

Have been more problems since last post. Engine now runs very lumpy on start up, engine rev drop between 1000 and 500 until warm. Eml on sometimes and off sometimes. Engine does cut out occasionaly.

The gears seem to change up and down different to how it used to. Could this be due to the faulty crank sensor?

Goung for test on tuesday, just trying to get some undertanding whats going on.

Could be a number of things, esp air leaks. But you know you have a faulty crank sensor, so that needs to be fixed first...

Hi moorej91
Have terrible problems with my own at the mo, car starts well first thing but a complete nightmare to start when hot, now the wife drives it alot so i only get it when theres something wrong. Anyway, after speaking to a few people in the know, i think i've done as much as i can from cleaning out the tank and replacing the lift pump which was in bad shape, put it all back together to no avail. Took it down to a local garage were i was allowed the use of a ramp/lift i proceeded to do a full srevice oil/air/fuel/pollon filters and put in a brand new battery and two new tyres, still no change still hard to start when hot, so i sent the car down to a local friend to put on the computer, and the result was a faulty crank sensor, so i can only order 1 and hope that this will fix my problem, if not >:(    I'll be in touch
