Firstly - is the EML constantly on, of flickering?
Secondly, if you clear the code, does it come back?

Check sensor wiring, it's a favourite for getting caught up in the aux belt pulley or getting caught behind the cambelt cover.

If the sensor seems OK - look at other means - is the engine running OK - are there any other codes logged?

The eml light came on yesterday and after I booted it the lamp went out.
The next time i started the car the light was on and wont go off.
Its constant no flickering,The car also hesitates on acceleration.
I will check again for codes.

Check the state of the knock sensor cable, it attaches to a connector on the cabel tray attached to the cam belt cover at the front of the engine (or the EGR valve on 96 or earlier cars) and runs down by the aux belt tesioner and alternator.

If the cable is poorly run following say a cam belt change it can get caught in the aux belt.

The EML has now gone out ?
The engine is running properly ?
I only waggled the wires and disconnected the egr and now its seems ok
Tomorrow at work I will do another code check
Is it possible to clear code with only a paper clip ?
