Link check front door, W reg
« on: 09 September 2008, 20:12:00 »

Hi all,
I have searched already for this topic but couldn't find an answer.
Drivers front door link check is gone, therefore quite annoying to get in/out of the car. I checked in other forums and there seemed to have been a problem with this link checks at the beginning of the Omega B area.
My question now: Does that still apply for my model? Is it "just" a change of the link check? Anybody an idea what this part costs?
Thanks for your answers!

Hi

I have the same problem but on S reg car and on passenger door. I have heard that you can buy a repair kit but that it involves welding etc.

I would be interested to know if this is true.

i used large washers on both doors, passenger door strap was nearly ripped out, drivers door had cracked between both bolts. put washers inside and on the outside to clamp together the torn mounting, bit fiddly getting the inner washer in and holding the door strap, but patience will get ur there, both doors now open with no cracking., I was gonna weld but this saved me the aggro. :)

@all: Wow, fast response! THANK YOU!!

@Timbuk: Perfect! So I then will march to the POS and ask for that kit. Without welding I am fine with that! I would def refuse welding on an 8 year old car!!! This would be a proper reason for rust coming up sooner rather than later!

Hope that the weather gets a bit dryer so that I can get that work done, want to have everything alright on that car!

Timbuks correct - no welding needed for the kit.
But you said 'link check is gone' - what did you mean by this?

I think this may give you some idea as to what your after>>>
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vauxhall-Door-Hinge-coupling-Strap-part-number-13150287_W0QQitemZ250291364985QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item250291364985&_trkparms=72%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Sadly this is not for your car but is very similar you buy this hinge part for your model old one has pulled through Yes? anyway then you buy or make a back plate to put behind the inner door panel 2mm Thk x 10cm L x 3.2cms wide... approx then you need to drill 2 holes in it to match up with the bolt holes on your new hinge/brkt to allow you to bolt it to the plate part shown in the pic ,you also need a 3rd hole drilling then making big enough to allow the slider bit to go through into door, bit of drilling then filing it oblong.... Depending on how bad the hole is this will work most times

hope you get what I mean ! :y
No welding ...!!

@ians: I first thought the link check was just broken. Wouldn't have expected what I found out yesterday!  :o  So finally the link check on the drivers door ist really torn out from the upper part, the hole at the buttom seems to be all right (just checked from the outside)
The passengers door is just cracking (currently) so I will purchase the rep set for both sides to give the mounting the sturdiness it needs.
Good to hear that there is no welding necessary but under this circumstances I would have glued it rather then welded.

@willyboy: Do I get you right that I will need the door strap new anyway? Not that cheap for the Omega, £32.50 incl shipping costs  :(

All right so Saturday my nearest POS will get some business from me!

Thanks again for your help!

I think its unlikely you will need a new check link assembly.

The first thing to do is replace the plastic bushes on the A pillar - this should stop the cracking on the passenger door, but do the drivers one as well.

Then remove the drivers check link assembly - you need to strip off the door card (and speaker I think), but not the plastic film (I'm going from memory).  The link assembly will come out from the inside.
The repair kit (2x plates and bolts) then sandwiches the torn metal on the door, and will be sufficient to deal with apparently quite bad damage - its worth spending some time to flatten the torn bits so the bolts can get a purchase on the threads in the check link assembly.

Give the link assembly a good grease and its worth painting the repair plates to avoid corrosion before reassembly.

Hope that makes sense.
